Six new breeds making their debuts on Westminster Dog Show 2012 and they have been recognized by the American Kennel Club, according to Westminster Kennel Club official website, the competition will be held at Madison Square Garden in New York City, from February 13-14, 2012.
Meet the new breeds eligible to compete in this year’s show are:
American English Coonhound (Hound Group). This breed evolved from Virginia Hounds which is descendants of English Hound.
Cesky Terrier (Terrier Group). Cesky Terrier from Terrier Group was developed to be a well-muscled, short legged and well-pigmented hunting terrier that could be worked in packs.
Entlebucher Mountain Dog (Herding Group). The smallest in the four Swiss breed, native of Switzerland.
Finnish Lapphund (Herding Group). Finnish Lapphund also came from Herding group from the Northern parts of Scandinavia, and people believed that this breed existed for hundreds, maybe thousands years, as the helper dog of the native tribes.
Norwegian Lundehund (Non-Sporting Group). Also known Puffin Dog, from non-sporting group that spent centuries on the rocky cliffs and high fields of artic Norway hunting and retrieving Puffin birds.
Xoloitzcuintli (Non-Sporting Group). Pronounced as “show-low,” Xoloitzcuintli is the national dog of mexico also known as the Mexican hairless.
