Tunnel collapses in Central Japan on Sunday morning, trapping number of vehicles and fire started inside the tunnel due to black smoke coming out.
As stated on Japanese media reports, the highway tunnel collapsed and involving passing vehicles. Around 150 concrete panels fell from the roof of a highway tunnel on the main road linking Tokyo with central Japan on Sunday.
Reports says that the incident happened at about 08:00 local time (23:00 GMT Saturday) in the Sasago tunnel, about 80km (50 miles) west of the capital Tokyo.
Some vehicles find out covered by debris and possible people were feared trapped inside, according to a statement by the Fire and Disaster Management Agency.
“I could hear voices of people calling for help, but the fire was just too strong,” statement from a woman after she escaped the tunnel, on an interviewed by public broadcaster NHK.
Rescuers, police vehicles, fire trucks and ambulances are at the scene and were massed outside the tunnel’s entrance, watch the video below of tunnel collapse in Japan.
