Manila, Philippines – The country’s two major mobile phone providers Smart Communications Inc. and Globe Telecom, on Friday, December 16, 2011 launched the latest iPhone in the Philippines. The iPhone 4S debuts in Philippines come with different attractive perks and packages aimed to gather more customers.
According to several local news sites, Smart Communications Inc. on Thursday night closed down the Rockwell Powerplant Mall from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. in the morning to release the iPhone 4S to its subscribers. Manuel Pangilinan, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. chairman told reporters that he expects “fair competition” with Globe Telecom Inc.
“It’s now a level playing field,” Pangilinan said, referring to Apple’s decision to end its exclusive
distribution relationship with Globe Telecom.
Meanwhile, Globe Telecom hosted the Apple iPhone 4S launch at midnight at the Ayala Museum where the postpaid plans were revealed on the night itself.
“We are announcing a ‘no worry’ guarantee. All data usage across our entire postpaid base, even on regular plans, will be capped at P999,” Peter Bithos, Globe senior advisor for consumer business told reporters.
“We at Globe understand that the iPhone 4S is a data-intensive smartphone, with users more prone to bill shock because of features such as Siri and iCloud. With Globe plans giving users unlimited mobile internet at fixed charges, our subscribers do not have to worry about unusually high charges on their bills because of mobile data, thus letting them enjoy their iPhone 4S their way,” Bithos said.
