Helicopter found 8 years later in New Zealand Mountain on a very complex terrain on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 by New Zealand Police, New Zealand Police news.
Report says that the wreckage of the Hughes 500 helicopter was discovered in Fiorland, missing in 2004 togerther with two people on board. Aircraft’s remains located in a remote area of the country’s South Island, on Wednesday, according to local police.
People on board identified as Hannah Timings, 28, from Cheltenham, and local pilot Campbell Montgomerie, 27.
New Zealand Police said the helicopter was travelling to Milford Sound when it crashed in January 2004.
Families of the victims are already informed about the helicopter discovery but according to New Zealand Police remain must be formally identified and this will be done through DNA.
The wreckage was found at the extremities of the original search area, which comprised extraordinarily difficult and complex terrain, Police said.
Police thoughts are with the families of Timings and Montgomerie, at this time and Police hope that the Helicopter found 8 years later brings some closure for them.
